The plan(C) Michiel (Long Tramp)
Friday 24:
Leave as early as we can and drive to Urchin campground and set up tent.
Saturday 25:
Drive 1 car to Umukarikari carpark and follow Umukarikari track to Waipakihi hut (Standard hut, 12 bunks, 8hrs). Either stay in hut or camp outside.
Sunday 26:
Follow Waipakihi river down to Urchin track. Camp at river. (6-7hrs)
Monday 27:
Walk up to Urchin and down to Urchin carpark (4-5hrs). Get car from Umukarikari carpark and drive home.
The plan(B) Mike (Short Tramp)
Saturday 25 Jan.
Leave approx. 9am, travel to Urchin Camping ground. (Approx 3h drive). Walk up to Mount Urchin and down to the end of the Urchin track (4-5h walking). Find a great camping spot by the Waipakihi river, set up camp, chill, relax, swim, eat etc.
Sunday 26 Jan:
Spend the day by the river, chilling, relaxing, swimming, fishing, eating and drinking. Welcome Michiel and the rest of his team into camp when they arrive.
Monday 27 Jan:
Break camp. Walk up to Mount Urchin again and down to Urchin carpark (4-5hrs walking). Give a lift to Michiel and team back to their car from Umukarikari carpark. Drive home.
